Apple Supplier Foxconn Says Limited Impact on Chip Shortage

Apple is said to face a little impact of the global chip storage due to its large size and its supplier’s tendency to prioritize it.

The chairman of the Apple Inc. supplier Foxconn said that he expects his company and their clients will face only limited impact from a chip shortage that has rattled the global automotive and semiconductor industries.

Since most of the customers we serves are large and big companies they have proper precautionary planning said Liu Young way the chairman of the conglomerate which is formally known as Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. Ltd. Therefore the impact on these large customers is there but is very minimal.

Now the car manufacturers such as GM(general motors), Volksvogen and Ford motors has cut the output as chip capacity has shrunk.

Counterpoint research says the shortage has extended to the smartphone sector with the application processors/ chipsets, display driver chips and the power management chips all facing a crunch noadays.

However the research company predicts that Apple will face a minute impact due to its large sized and its suppliers tendency to priotise them. Apple is Foxconn’s larget supplier.

Foxconn is looking at the other areas for growth, including in electric vehicles industry and Liu said their Electric vehicle development platform MH now had 737 partner companies which will be participating.

Liu also said that the company is looking for the semiconductors fab purchasing opportunites in the Southeast Aisa after not winning a bid to take over the stake in the Malaysia based 8 inch foundry house Silterra.
